NIV:  Haggard from want and hunger, they roamed the parched land in desolate wastelands at night.
NAS:  "From want and famine they are gaunt Who gnaw the dry ground by night in waste and desolation,
KJV:  For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.
GWT:  Shriveled up from need and hunger, they gnaw at the dry and barren ground during the night.
ASV:  They are gaunt with want and famine; They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of wasteness and desolation.
BBE:  They are wasted for need of food, biting the dry earth; their only hope of life is in the waste land.
DBY:  Withered up through want and hunger, they flee into waste places long since desolate and desert:
DRB:  Barren with want and hunger, who gnawed in the wilderness, disfigured with calamity and misery.
